Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz secures majority in Azad Jammu and Kashmir assembly
Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML‑N) announced that it has secured a simple majority to form the government in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), winning 23 of the 45 seats after the second phase of voting.
In the second phase, PML‑N emerged as the frontrunner, winning either 13 or 14 of the 18 constituencies declared so far, including four of the seven seats in the Muzaffarabad division, and capturing 10 of the 12 refugee seats reserved for migrants from Indian‑occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) won the remaining seats, reporting three or four victories in the same phase.
Polling in constituency LA‑27 was postponed because of adverse weather and landslides, with voting rescheduled for Tuesday at 54 polling stations across LA‑27 and LA‑28. Road blockages delayed election staff and materials.
PPP leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf rejected the election process, calling the mandate “fake” and refusing to accept the results. PML‑N adviser Rana Sanaullah accused the PPP of cooperating with the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) to disrupt the election and offered a forensic audit of alleged rigged polling stations.
