Pakistan NCCIA officer becomes viral meme after verbal slips
An official from Pakistan’s National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has become the subject of widespread social media mockery following a viral video. While attempting to issue a stern warning against anti-state content and highlight the agency’s surveillance capabilities, the officer made several linguistic errors.
In the clip, the officer mistakenly referred to the agency’s cyber patrolling unit as ‘Cyber Petroleum’ and struggled to articulate a phrase regarding monitoring ‘what is going on social of media.’
The video has prompted criticism from social media users regarding the competency of government appointees and the selection process for officials in responsible positions. The NCCIA, which operates under the Ministry of Interior, was established in May 2024 under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016.
