Pakistan officials rebuke JUI-F chief over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa administration

Federal government officials and the Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have criticized Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman following his calls for a parliamentary in-camera session to discuss the province's security situation.

Maulana Fazlur Rehman urged the government to brief lawmakers on its counterterrorism strategy, arguing that parliament is the only platform to take the nation into confidence. In response, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry stated that the current provincial setup in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was not designed for “coalition-building or power-sharing” and was not intended to serve personal political ambitions.

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi also expressed disappointment with Rehman’s remarks, specifically addressing the JUI-F leader's claims regarding law and order and his ability to move freely within the province. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi suggested that the opposition leader was dissatisfied with not receiving a role in the governor’s rule arrangement.
