Pakistan: Over 2.2 million register for PM’s fuel relief scheme
More than 2.2 million people have registered for the Prime Minister’s fuel relief scheme in Pakistan, according to Information Minister Attaullah Tarar. The program aims to provide targeted financial support to citizens facing rising petrol prices and increased transportation expenses.
The scheme is designed for non-commercial users of motorcycles, rickshaws, and cars with engine capacities up to 800cc. Under the program, two- and three-wheeler users can receive Rs. 500 per week, while owners of cars up to 800cc are eligible for Rs. 1,000 every 10 days, subject to a monthly limit of 30 litres.
A digital Fuel Pass System, managed by the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication, handles registration, eligibility verification, and token generation to ensure transparency. To assist with the rollout, the government has established facilitation desks featuring administration officials and volunteers to guide citizens through the registration process.
