Pakistan Petroleum Limited discovers gas in Sindh

Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced a new gas discovery at the Dolphin X-1 exploration well located in the Sujawal District of Sindh. The well was drilled to a measured depth of 3,850 metres to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of the Chiltan Formation.

Testing following acid stimulation recorded a gas flow rate of approximately 0.942 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd), with a heating value of roughly 1,000 Btu per standard cubic foot. The well also produced condensate, with an initial rate of 94 barrels per day that later declined to 46 barrels per day.

PPL holds a 75 percent working interest in the Sirani Exploration License, while Government Holdings Private Limited (GHPL) maintains a 25 percent stake. The discovery is viewed as a potential catalyst for further exploration in the onshore and shallow offshore areas of the region, supporting Pakistan’s efforts to expand domestic energy supplies.
