Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif attends SCO summit in Bishkek
Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The summit, held from August 31 to September 1, includes leaders from major powers such as China, Russia, and India.
During the summit, Prime Minister Sharif held a bilateral meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The two leaders discussed strengthening bilateral ties and emphasized the importance of implementing decisions made during President Pezeshkian’s visit to Pakistan in June. Sharif stressed the need to advance the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) as a viable path toward lasting regional peace.
President Pezeshkian praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts for regional security and expressed Tehran’s desire to expand cooperation across various sectors. The summit also features high-level meetings between other world leaders, including scheduled discussions between Russian President Vladimir Putin and various counterparts.
