Pakistan PM Shehbaz Sharif Orders Third‑Party Audit and Fast‑Track of Government Right‑Sizing

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chaired a high‑level review meeting in Islamabad and directed officials to accelerate the government “right‑sizing” programme, which eliminates unnecessary posts and institutions to reduce federal civilian expenditure. He ordered a third‑party audit of all positions and entities already abolished and told the Right‑Sizing Committee to complete its remaining recommendations within one month.

The briefing noted that the Utility Stores Corporation, Pakistan Public Works Department and Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation have been closed under the initiative, generating savings for the exchequer and lowering the ratio of civil government spending to GDP. The government also reported that Pakistan International Airlines and First Women Bank Ltd have been privatized, with further state‑owned enterprises slated for privatisation. Sharif emphasized the use of modern technology and improved training to boost the performance of remaining institutions.
