Pakistan probes deaths of two women in separate gender‑based violence cases
An 18‑year‑old domestic worker in Pakistan allegedly endured months of sexual assault by her employer’s son and driver. After becoming pregnant, she was taken to a private clinic for an abortion at four to five months gestation. She suffered severe complications, was hospitalized in Lahore, and died during surgery on May 23. Police added murder charges against the suspects and are re‑interviewing witnesses, while the abortion facility may also face charges.
In a separate case, the body of 18‑year‑old Misbah was exhumed in Karachi after her family accused her husband of killing her in a domestic‑violence incident. The court‑ordered exhumation, led by a medical board, yielded post‑mortem samples for forensic analysis. Authorities will determine the cause of death once laboratory results are available, and the investigation continues.
