Pakistan Promotes Aamer Raza to Four‑Star General and NSC Commander

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the promotion of Lieutenant General Aamer Raza to the rank of four‑star general and his appointment as Commander of the National Strategic Command (NSC), the key institution overseeing Pakistan’s strategic assets. The move follows a recent constitutional amendment that mandates a Vice Chief of Army Staff to hold a four‑star rank and signals a broader reshaping of the army’s senior leadership.

Aamer Raza, a graduate of the Command and Staff College, Quetta, and the National Defence University, holds a degree in International Relations from the University of Nottingham and advanced studies in warfare and strategic studies. His career includes command of the 6th Lancers, an armored brigade, an infantry brigade in South Waziristan, an infantry division, and the IV Corps in Lahore. He has also served as Chief of the General Staff and led Heavy Industries Taxila.

The promotion is intended to strengthen the chain of command and enhance Pakistan’s defense readiness amidst regional and global uncertainties.
