Pakistan reduces trade data gap with China to 0.54%
Pakistan’s Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs have reported a significant reduction in the discrepancy between bilateral trade figures reported by Pakistan and China. The gap, which stood at 32% in 2023, has been reduced to 0.54% following a reconciliation process.
Authorities clarified that previous statistical differences did not automatically serve as evidence of import fraud or under-invoicing. Officials noted that variations often arise from differing methods of data collection, classification, and reporting between the two nations. To prevent revenue loss and ensure fair competition, the FBR has introduced measures to improve trade data accuracy and strengthen customs valuation procedures, effective from July 2026.
Moving forward, Pakistani authorities are working with Chinese officials to expand electronic data exchange and enhance the verification of individual trade transactions to ensure more precise mirror trade analysis.
