Pakistan rejects Afghan Taliban allegations of civilian casualties
Pakistan has officially rejected claims made by the Afghan Taliban administration regarding civilian casualties resulting from Pakistani counter-terrorism operations. The Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs described these allegations as “baseless and unsubstantiated,” asserting that military actions adhere to international principles of necessity, distinction, and precaution.
Islamabad emphasized its right to self-defense against terrorist networks operating from Afghan territory. Officials noted that militant groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), continue to utilize Afghan soil to plan and execute attacks. According to the statement, these cross-border terrorist activities resulted in more than 3,500 casualties in Pakistan during 2026.
Pakistan further cited United Nations monitoring reports that express concern over the presence of various terrorist organizations within Afghanistan. The government urged Kabul to prioritize the elimination of militant sanctuaries rather than disseminating misleading narratives.
