Pakistan Removed from Joint War Committee’s Marine War‑Risk List

On 29 July 2026 the Joint War Committee (JWC) issued its latest Joint War Listed Areas circular, JWLA‑034, removing Pakistan from the marine war‑risk listed area after two decades of designation. The change means vessels calling ports such as Karachi, Port Qasim and Gwadar will no longer be subject to the additional insurance premiums and contractual conditions that applied to listed zones, potentially lowering freight costs and improving the commercial viability of voyages to the country.

The circular also adjusted other regions, including the northern boundary of the Gulf of Aden and the definition of the Saudi Arabian listed area, while retaining heightened risk alerts for the Black Sea and key Middle‑East chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz and Bab el‑Mandeb. Insurers, brokers and shipowners must negotiate the application of the new terms, but the removal of Pakistan is widely seen as a positive signal for the country's maritime trade and the broader logistics network surrounding the new Gwadar hub.
