Pakistan reports highest female heart disease mortality in South Asia

Health experts have revealed that the rate of death from heart disease among women in Pakistan is the highest among five South Asian countries. Factors contributing to increased cardiovascular risks include high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity, and unhealthy dietary habits.

To address these concerns, the ‘Every Heart Matters’ campaign was launched in collaboration with organizations including the Pakistan Cardiac Society and the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Pakistan. The initiative aims to improve early diagnosis, screening, and treatment awareness for women.

Medical professionals noted that heart disease in women is frequently overlooked. Specific attention is required during pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Clinical observations indicated that approximately 4 percent of pregnant women screened showed signs of heart disease, while over 90 percent of women visiting diabetes clinics at JPMC showed significant cardiovascular risk factors. Experts emphasized the importance of regular medical follow-ups, family planning, and reducing the consumption of fried foods and sugary beverages.
