Pakistan secures hepatitis delta treatment deal with Chinese health firm

Pakistan's federal health ministry signed a bilateral agreement with Chinese company Huahui Health to supply a new drug for hepatitis delta virus. The deal was formalised in a meeting attended by Health Minister Mustafa Kamal, senior officials from both countries and leading Pakistani haematologists.

The agreement aims to make the treatment available locally, addressing an estimated one‑million Pakistanis affected by hepatitis delta. Officials said the drug has passed Phase II clinical trials with positive safety and efficacy results, and regulatory steps are being fast‑tracked to bring the therapy to patients as soon as possible, marking a significant step for the country's pharmaceutical sector and Sino‑Pakistani health cooperation.
