Pakistan secures Qatari LNG shipment via Hormuz after Iran negotiations
Pakistan has secured the safe passage of a Qatari liquefied natural gas (LNG) shipment through the Strait of Hormuz following negotiations with Iran. According to ship-tracking data, the tanker, which loaded at Qatar’s Ras Laffan facility in late June, cleared the strait over the weekend and is expected to arrive at its destination in Pakistan by Tuesday.
This marks the second Qatari LNG delivery to Pakistan in September. The successful transit provides relief to Pakistan’s energy sector, which has faced significant pressure and high costs due to the need for expensive spot market purchases. Qatar had previously declared force majeure on its exports following Iranian strikes that damaged the Ras Laffan export hub.
QatarEnergy CEO Saad al-Kaabi noted that the ongoing crisis in the Strait of Hormuz could delay expansion projects because critical equipment is unable to reach Qatar, and the company is currently producing only a very minute volume of liquefied natural gas.
