Suicide vehicle bomb hits Pakistan security checkpoint, 15 killed

On the night of 23‑24 July 2026, a suicide attacker rammed an explosives‑laden vehicle into the perimeter wall of a joint police‑military checkpoint in Tank district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, near the Afghan border. The blast killed 15 members of the security forces – 12 soldiers, two policemen and a former forest‑department official – and severely damaged the post’s infrastructure. Pakistani security forces pursued the fleeing militants and killed all 12 attackers in the ensuing operation.

The Pakistani military’s Inter‑Services Public Relations (ISPR) identified the assailants as “Fitna‑al‑Khawarij”, the state’s term for the banned Tehreek‑e‑Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The TTP later claimed responsibility, stating that four suicide bombers were involved. The incident adds to a sharp rise in militant violence in north‑western Pakistan, which authorities attribute to groups operating from Afghan sanctuary, a claim denied by the Afghan Taliban.

Security officials said a clearance and search operation continues in the area to eliminate any remaining militants.
