The market is expanding rapidly, with approximately 84 companies now operating in the sector, including startups like Vlektra and Jolta, as well as established manufacturers. This growth is fueled by the economic advantage of charging a battery over purchasing petrol, which provides more predictable monthly expenses for low-income commuters.

However, the transition faces practical challenges. Potential buyers must navigate unreliable power grids and frequent load-shedding, which can complicate the ability to charge vehicles consistently. Despite these hurdles, the demand remains high as consumers prioritize affordable mobility in a volatile energy market.
