Pakistan Senate: PTI walkout over Imran Khan health and opposition unity talks

Senators from the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) staged a walkout from the Senate following a dispute over the health of party founder Imran Khan. The protest began when Senate Opposition Leader Raja Nasir Abbas was denied permission to speak on the incarcerated leader’s medical condition. PTI Parliamentary Leader Barrister Ali Zafar attempted to move a resolution regarding Khan’s treatment, but the deputy chairman refused, stating the matter was sub judice. Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar also opposed the resolution, noting that the matter was already before the courts.

Separately, leaders of various opposition parties, including JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman and PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, met at Parliament House to establish a collective strategy. The unified opposition aims to address national issues such as inflation, the economic crisis, political repression, and the deteriorating law and order situation. Raja Nasir Abbas stated that this joint effort is intended to strengthen the opposition's role in Parliament and could evolve into a broader political movement to address the suspension of civil rights and national instability.
