Pakistan set to lead D-8 agenda on climate, digital and agriculture

D-8 Secretary General Ambassador Sohail Mehmood said Pakistan, as a founding member of the Developing‑8 (Bangladesh, Egypt, Indonesia, Iran, Malaysia, Nigeria, Pakistan and Turkey), is well‑positioned to drive the bloc’s cooperation on climate resilience, digital transformation, agriculture and peace initiatives. He highlighted Pakistan’s strategic location, agricultural expertise and growing fintech and e‑governance sectors as assets for collective progress. The comments were made ahead of the upcoming D-8 summit, where members are expected to adopt a new roadmap for economic and social integration, with Pakistan expected to play a pivotal role.

Mehmood praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in promoting regional stability and its capacity to translate shared challenges into shared opportunities for the Global South.
