Pakistan Stock Exchange KSE-100 Index faces volatility and losses
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) has experienced significant volatility, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index recording losses in recent sessions. On Tuesday, the index saw a sharp intraday reversal, falling 508 points (0.29%) to settle at 176,466 points after an initial surge of 824 points. This reversal was attributed to investor caution regarding the US-Iran conflict and global oil price uncertainty.
Despite the decline, the refinery sector saw increased trading volumes due to expectations that five refineries might sign upgradation agreements this week. Cnergyico PK emerged as a volume leader. Other notable movements included gains in stocks such as SYS, ENGROH, and Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited, while selling pressure in banking and consumer goods stocks like MEBL, MCB, and Nestle Pakistan Limited weighed on the market.
In a prior session on Monday, the KSE-100 also turned bearish, losing over 720 points (0.41%) to close at 176,975.68 points. During that period, trading volume and value saw substantial increases, with the total traded value reaching approximately Rs39.134 billion.
