Pakistan Stock Exchange outlook tied to central bank policy and Middle East tensions
The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) faces a volatile outlook as investors await the State Bank of Pakistan’s Monetary Policy Committee meeting on October 26. While improving economic indicators and corporate earnings expectations provide potential support, geopolitical uncertainty and rising international oil prices continue to weigh on sentiment.
The benchmark KSE-100 Index recently declined by 4,045 points, or 2.4% week-on-week, to close at 162,375. Banking, technology, and cement sectors were among the primary contributors to this downward pressure. Analysts expect the central bank to maintain the current policy rate, though Middle East developments remain a critical variable for inflation and energy costs.
In the energy sector, Pakistan’s oil refineries have reported a profit increase of over 1,000%. This sharp rise follows a period of financial difficulty for the industry and highlights the impact of operating costs, fuel demand, and international oil price fluctuations on the sector's performance.
