Pakistan Cybercrime Agency Summons Imran Khan’s Sister Noreen Niazi Over Controversial Remarks

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Islamabad issued a summons to Noreen Niazi, sister of former prime minister Imran Khan, ordering her to appear at its G‑13/3 office on 20 July. The agency alleges she circulated “false, offensive and inflammatory” social‑media content that defames state institutions and spreads fake narratives.

In a widely shared video interview, Niazi claimed the May 2025 India‑Pakistan military confrontation was staged by both countries to improve the Pakistani army’s image and suggested India held back because Pakistan was moving toward recognising Israel. She also linked the episode to U.S. President Donald Trump’s praise of Pakistan and the prospect of Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords. The notice warned that failure to attend would be treated as an admission of having no defence and could lead to prosecution under Section 174 of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Pakistani ministers, including Information Minister Attaullah Tarar and Punjab Information Minister Azma Bokhari, condemned the remarks as political attacks on the armed forces and the nation, urging Niazi to apologise.
