Pakistan summons US diplomat over Kashmir remarks

A diplomatic dispute has emerged between Pakistan, India, and the United States following remarks made by US Ambassador Sergio Gor regarding the status of Jammu and Kashmir. During a visit to Srinagar, where he met with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Gor described the region as ‘an important part of India.’

Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the US chargé d’affaires in Islamabad to lodge a ‘strong demarche,’ rejecting the comments as ‘irresponsible’ and inconsistent with international law. Islamabad maintained that the territory remains disputed under UN resolutions and argued that Gor’s statements contradict Washington’s long-standing position on the matter.

India’s Ministry of External Affairs dismissed the protest, stating there was ‘no reason to comment on Pakistan’s frustration.’ Indian officials reiterated that Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh are ‘integral and indivisible parts of India.’ The US envoy also signaled a potential re-evaluation of travel warnings for the region, praising local security efforts during his visit.
