Pakistan to export MG cars to Bangladesh in landmark trade deal
Pakistan announced a major automotive export agreement that will see locally assembled MG vehicles shipped to Bangladesh. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production Haroon Akhtar Khan said the deal will initially involve 5,000 MG cars, marking the first large‑scale export of Pakistani‑made automobiles.
A separate Memorandum of Understanding signed by MG JW Automobile Pakistan and Bangladesh’s RANCON Group will start with 100 vehicles this year, with total shipments projected to reach 5,800 units over the next four years. The agreement, also attended by RANGS Motors Ltd., is part of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s strategy to turn Pakistan into a regional manufacturing hub and to boost foreign‑exchange earnings.
Officials highlighted that the auto sector has grown in quality, localisation and capacity, enabling Pakistani cars to compete internationally. Both governments say the partnership will increase competition in Bangladesh’s market and create jobs while supporting Pakistan’s export‑driven economic policy.
