Pakistan to host 14th South Asian Games in April 2027

Pakistan is set to host the 14th South Asian Games from April 3 to 11, 2027. The multi-sport event will take place across three cities: Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar. This marks Pakistan's return as host for the first time in 23 years, having last staged the games in 2004.

The South Asia Olympic Council (SAOC) finalized the dates and venues during an Executive Committee meeting in Islamabad, chaired by Pakistan Olympic Association president Arif Saeed. The games were previously delayed from a 2021 schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic and other factors.

The competition is expected to include approximately 3,200 athletes competing in 28 sports for a total of 346 medals. While representatives from nations including Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka attended the meeting in person, India's participation remains uncertain. Although an Indian representative attended the planning session via video link, political tensions mean a formal commitment to send a contingent has not yet been made.
