Pakistan trade figures show declining exports and mobile phone imports

Pakistan experienced a decline in total exports during fiscal year 2025-26, falling from approximately $32 billion to $30.8 billion. This $1.2 billion decrease was driven largely by a $1.02 billion drop in rice exports. Other sectors, including textiles, sugar, and various agricultural products, also saw reduced performance. Regional instability in the Middle East and tensions between the United States and Iran contributed to these trade disruptions, including a $100 million decline in exports to Gulf countries.

In the import sector, mobile phone imports fell by 8.85% during the first two months of the fiscal year, dropping to $274.129 million from $300.741 million in the previous year. Specifically, August 2026 saw a year-on-year decline of 13.82% in mobile phone imports. In contrast, imports of telecom equipment rose by 8.95% during the same July-August period, reaching $432.044 million as operators continue to invest in network infrastructure.
