Pakistan Transport Alliance warns of nationwide strike over fuel price hikes

Malik Shahzad Awan, president of the Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance, condemned the federal government's decision to raise petroleum product prices and to adjust them daily, calling the increase unaffordable for the transport sector. He warned that a nationwide strike could be called at any time, especially if the government does not reverse the policy. The alliance is consulting transport associations across the country and has appealed to chambers of commerce and federations for support.

Awan demanded immediate relief on tolls, withholding tax, motorway fees and traffic fines, saying these charges compound the financial strain on transport operators. He reiterated that the transport sector is a backbone of the economy, but without government assistance it faces severe hardship, and the alliance may expand the strike if promised concessions for December are not delivered.
