Pakistan transporters launch nationwide wheel‑jam strike over fuel pricing and taxes

Goods transporters across Pakistan began an indefinite, country‑wide wheel‑jam strike on 8 August 2026 after negotiations with the federal and provincial governments failed. The All Pakistan Goods Transport Alliance and the Pakistan Mini Miza Association announced the strike, warning that it could severely disrupt imports, exports and overall commercial activity.

The transporters’ demands include setting diesel and other petroleum product prices on a monthly basis instead of daily, reducing or removing toll taxes and excessive fines, replacing the 7 % withholding tax with a 2 % turnover tax, and fully implementing the axle‑load limit law. They also seek compensation for vehicles destroyed in terrorist incidents and have called for the resignation of the federal minister for petroleum. The government has scheduled a meeting with transport representatives on the following Monday, but the strike will continue until their demands are met.
