Pakistan warns of terrorism threats at Moscow Afghanistan consultations

At the eighth Moscow Format Consultations on Afghanistan, Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Mohammad Sadiq, identified terrorism as the central issue facing the country. Sadiq addressed the regional forum, stating that a nexus exists between the Taliban government and various terrorist groups operating from Afghan soil.

Pakistan reported that terrorism emanating from Afghanistan poses a severe security threat, noting that over 4,700 Pakistanis have been killed by such attacks over the last three years. Sadiq characterized Pakistan’s counter-terrorism operations as “precise, intelligence-based and defensive in nature” and emphasized that Islamabad intends to uphold citizen safety in accordance with international law.

In addition to security concerns, the discussions covered regional peace, economic cooperation, connectivity, and humanitarian needs. Pakistan highlighted its ongoing efforts to support Afghan stability through humanitarian relief, trade and transit incentives, and regional connectivity projects since the Taliban's arrival in Kabul in 2021.
