Pakistan urges Afghan Taliban to curb cross-border militant attacks

Pakistan has renewed its demand for the Afghan Taliban government to prevent militant groups from using Afghan territory to launch attacks within Pakistan. Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar stated that failure to curb these groups, including the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), could eventually pose a threat to the Taliban's own rule.

Dar noted that he had previously warned Afghan Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund about this risk during a visit to Kabul in July 2025. Tensions between the two neighbors have escalated due to frequent border clashes and Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan. The United Nations Mission in Afghanistan reported that cross-border violence resulted in over 1,100 civilian casualties in Afghanistan this year.

In response, Afghan government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid rejected the accusations, characterizing them as a failed policy by Islamabad. Mujahid accused Pakistani officials of using propaganda to deflect from Pakistan's own political, security, and economic challenges rather than seeking constructive solutions.
