Pakistan weather alert: Heavy rain, flooding risks, and first snowfall in Swat
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across several regions, including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Authorities have warned of potential urban flooding in low-lying areas such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Peshawar, Lahore, and Sialkot. There is also a significant risk of landslides in mountainous regions and flooding in local streams and nullahs, specifically in the Potohar region and Kashmir.
In the Swat region, Kalam and surrounding areas have recorded the first snowfall of the year, leading to a sharp drop in temperatures. Meanwhile, in the Galiyat region of Abbottabad, a landslide has blocked the Bara Gali-Kasala Road, disrupting traffic and posing a threat to nearby residential properties.
