Pakistan weather forecast: Heavy rain and landslide risks expected

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecasted rain, strong winds, and thunderstorms across the upper and central regions of Pakistan from August 13 to 15. This weather pattern is driven by the combination of monsoon currents moving into the upper parts of the country and a westerly wave influencing the region.

Heavy rainfall is expected in several areas, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northeastern Punjab. Specific locations likely to experience rain include Muzaffarabad, Gilgit, Skardu, Swat, Peshawar, and Lahore. Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and the Pothohar region are also expected to see thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain starting the evening or night of August 13.

The PMD has issued warnings regarding potential urban flooding in low-lying areas such as Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, and Lahore. Additionally, there is a significant risk of landslides in vulnerable mountainous regions, including upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Murree, Galiyat, and Kashmir. Travelers and tourists have been advised to exercise caution during this period.
