Punjab monsoon alert: Urban flooding risk in Lahore and five cities

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued an alert for an eighth monsoon spell across Punjab, Pakistan, effective through September 5. Heavy rainfall is predicted for several districts, with significant risks of urban flooding in Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Gujrat, and Sialkot.

In addition to flooding, there is a high risk of landslides in hilly areas such as Murree, Galiyat, and surrounding regions. The PDMA has instructed commissioners and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert and has mobilized departments including health, irrigation, communications, and local government to prepare for potential emergencies.

Authorities have advised citizens to avoid staying in dilapidated or mud houses, as these are prone to collapse during heavy rains. Residents are also cautioned to stay indoors during thunderstorms to avoid lightning strikes and to keep children away from standing water and electrical installations.
