Pakistan airstrikes in Afghanistan kill at least 10 civilians

Pakistani airstrikes in Afghanistan have resulted in at least 10 civilian deaths and nine injuries, according to the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA). The strikes, which occurred on October 1, targeted the southern province of Helmand and the eastern province of Kunar.

Pakistan's Ministry of Information stated that the operations were directed at militant hideouts, with initial reports suggesting 22 militants were killed. The Pakistani government maintains that its actions are necessary responses to threats and attacks originating from Afghan territory, specifically targeting groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA).

However, the Taliban has reported that the strikes hit three civilian homes. UNAMA has expressed concern over the rising civilian toll, noting that more than 1,100 civilians have been killed or injured due to cross-border violence in Afghanistan so far this year. The mission has called for de-escalation and adherence to international law to prevent further harm to the population.
