Pakistani diaspora in Canada celebrates Independence Day
The Pakistani community in Canada held major celebrations to mark Pakistan’s Independence Day and the 150th birth anniversary of Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
In Ottawa, the High Commission for Pakistan, along with consulates in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver, organized ceremonies including flag-hoisting and the screening of a documentary on Jinnah’s life. High Commissioner Muhammad Saleem reaffirmed the government’s commitment to a peaceful and democratic nation and noted the importance of the Pakistani diaspora in strengthening ties with Canada.
In Mississauga, a large-scale cultural festival drew thousands of attendees, setting a new record for participation. The event featured musical performances by artists such as Rahim Shah, Bilal Khan, and Ayesha Rabbani. Canadian federal and provincial officials, including mayors from Mississauga and Brampton, attended the festival to recognize the Pakistani community’s contributions to Canada’s prosperity.
