Pakistani national arrested in West Bengal for alleged ISI espionage
The West Bengal Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a Pakistani national, Wahab Alam (also known as Rana Rauf), in the Habra area of North 24 Parganas district. Authorities allege that Alam was an agent for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) tasked with collecting intelligence on the Indian Army, Navy, and Railways in the eastern sector.
Investigations revealed that Alam entered India via the Nepal border in 2012 and had been moving between various locations to avoid detection. During his arrest, police seized forged Indian identity documents, including Aadhaar and PAN cards. A second individual, Mohammad Izaz, was arrested in Kolkata for allegedly assisting Alam with these fraudulent documents.
Preliminary findings suggest Alam maintained direct links to the Pakistani military and intelligence agencies. The STF is currently investigating whether the suspect was planning terrorist activities ahead of Independence Day and is interrogating both suspects to identify further associates within the state.
