Carabinieri rescue 46‑year‑old from cliff in Aci Castello, Sicily
Carabinieri responding to an emergency call in Aci Castello found a 46‑year‑old man from Misterbianco perched on the edge of the Cristoforo Colombo seafront cliff, intent on jumping into the sea. The officers first tried a verbal approach, learning that the man was considering suicide because of private family issues. One officer then stepped over the rail and sat beside the man, establishing an empathetic dialogue. After several minutes the man was persuaded to desist, stood up, and was guided back over the rail to safety on the roadway. The Carabinieri called emergency medical services (118) to provide health assistance. The swift intervention prevented a fatal outcome and highlighted the role of the force in crisis intervention and mental‑health emergencies.
