Pakistan's Emergency Response Committee Holds 10th Monsoon Review
The Emergency Response Committee (ERC), convened by the prime minister, met for its 10th daily review of the monsoon response at the National Emergencies Operations Centre (NEOC). Planning Minister Prof. Ahsan Iqbal chaired the session via video link, with representatives from federal ministries, provincial governments, chief secretaries, disaster management authorities and other agencies. The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) briefed participants on the latest weather outlook, casualties, infrastructure damage and ongoing rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations. Officials warned that heavy rain will continue over northern and central Pakistan, with isolated showers expected in southeastern Sindh, and stressed the need for stricter building safety enforcement and public awareness.
The committee also noted the coordination of relief efforts with national and international humanitarian partners and urged all stakeholders to sustain high preparedness, expedite relief work and improve preventive measures for future weather events. A similar 9th session the previous day reviewed the same flood situation, highlighted the humanitarian response, and reaffirmed the importance of continued coordination among federal, provincial and district authorities.
