Pakistan's ISI launches deep‑fake disinformation campaign against India
India’s security agencies say Pakistan’s Inter‑Services Intelligence (ISI) has shifted to a multi‑front information war, employing deep‑fake videos and other disinformation tactics to target Indian interests. The strategy, outlined after the so‑called Operation Sindoor, is said to focus on three fronts: supporting home‑grown extremist modules, expanding drug‑smuggling operations using drones, and intensifying propaganda whenever the Indian army conducts exercises or Prime Minister Narendra Modi makes foreign trips. Officials warn the ISI aims to shape the global narrative to favour Pakistan on the Kashmir issue, despite India’s stance that Kashmir is an internal matter.
The ISI’s campaign is portrayed as a substitute for direct military confrontation, seeking to influence public opinion both domestically and internationally while avoiding overt conflict.
