Pakistan's OGRA to digitize petroleum supply chain monitoring

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) is developing a digital oil supply chain platform to enhance the monitoring of petroleum stocks in Pakistan. The initiative aims to improve the veracity, reliability, and timeliness of supply data by obtaining information directly from oil marketing companies (OMCs) and refineries.

The system will utilize Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and Automatic Tank Gauging (ATG) sensors to provide real-time visibility into fuel inventories. This digital transition follows directives from Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to modernize fuel supply monitoring amid global market volatility.

Integration of oil pipelines into the ERP system is currently underway and is expected to be completed by the end of September 2026. Once fully operational, the platform will assist OGRA in planning petroleum product requirements and monitoring supply-chain operations. The system will also support the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Pakistan Customs by providing faster access to information regarding customs-bonded petroleum stocks.
