Pakistan's tax authority finds $2.38 billion worth of petrol missing at Port Qasim

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has opened a tax evasion investigation after a customs‑bonded warehouse at Port Qasim was found to contain far less fuel than recorded. Documents show the private oil firm imported 18,048 metric tons of petrol, but inspectors discovered only 9,699 metric tons, leaving 8,348 metric tons – valued at roughly Rs2.38 billion – unaccounted for.

Authorities estimate the missing fuel caused a loss of about Rs1.25 billion in unpaid duties, taxes and levies. The case has been forwarded to the Customs Court, and the FBR is seeking additional records from the company to determine how the discrepancy occurred, amid broader scrutiny of Pakistan’s petroleum sector.
