Paks Nuclear Power Plant returns to maximum capacity
The Paks Nuclear Power Plant in Hungary has returned to its maximum operating capacity, with all four reactors and eight turbines functioning normally. This follows a period of risk where low water levels in the Danube threatened a complete shutdown of the facility.
To secure the cooling water supply, the Hungarian government implemented two primary measures. A short-term action involved sinking two 80-meter long, anchored barges to raise water levels. The long-term strategy involves the construction of a riverbed sill between Paks and Dunaszentbenedek, a project that officials report is progressing faster than originally planned.
Prime Minister Péter Magyar noted that the successful stabilization of the plant's operations contrasts with the situation at the Cernavodă nuclear power plant in Romania, which has reportedly been offline for two weeks due to similar water level issues.
