Paks Nuclear Power Plant receives tax relief for emergency cooling water project
Due to extremely low water levels in the Danube, the Hungarian government has ordered the urgent construction of a bottom sill to ensure the cooling water supply for the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. This situation is classified as a disaster under civil protection regulations.
To facilitate the project, the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) has introduced simplified tax and reporting rules for donations. Materials such as gravel, pebbles, and crushed stone being transported for the project may be exempt from certain eKÁER reporting requirements, provided the transporters notify the National Water Directorate in advance.
Furthermore, businesses offering free products or services to support the investment may be exempt from VAT, provided the contribution serves to mitigate the consequences of the disaster. For example, donated stone or free engineering services may qualify for VAT exemption if the donor reports the contribution to the NAV within 60 days.
