PAL-V receives EASA approval to produce flying cars

Dutch company PAL-V has obtained Production Organisation Approval (POA) from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), marking a major milestone for the production of its FlyDrive Liberty flying car.

This certification allows the Raamsdonksveer-based company to manufacture aviation products on an industrial scale according to strict European regulations. While the company now holds both automotive and aviation production approvals, the Liberty vehicle still requires a separate type certificate to prove it meets all safety and technical standards for flight. PAL-V expects to complete this certification process within approximately 1.5 years.

The PAL-V Liberty is a three-wheeled vehicle designed to operate both on roads and in the air using a foldable rotor system and a propeller. It is not capable of vertical takeoff like a helicopter and requires a runway for flight. The vehicle features a flight range of approximately 500 km and a maximum air speed of 180 km/h.

With approximately 250 units already sold, including to the Dutch fire department, PAL-V aims to deliver its first fully certified flying cars to customers by 2028. The company positions itself as a leader in the Advanced Air Mobility sector, ahead of several American and Chinese competitors.
