PAL-V receives regulatory approval for Liberty flying car

The Dutch company PAL-V has received production approval from the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) for its flying car, the Liberty. This regulatory milestone allows the company to move toward mass production, with the first units expected to take flight by 2028.

The Liberty is designed as a hybrid vehicle that functions as a three-wheeled road car and a compact gyrocopter. While it is road-legal with a top speed of 160 km/h and a range of 1,300 km, it requires a suitable airstrip for takeoff and landing. In the air, it reaches speeds of approximately 180 km/h with a flight duration of over four hours.

Initial demand is driven largely by emergency services, which account for roughly half of the first 250 orders. Potential users include fire departments and specialists needing rapid access to remote areas. The vehicle is expected to be priced between €299,000 and €499,000.
