Palace of Versailles to host Sofia Coppola film exhibition

The Palace of Versailles is hosting a series of events and an exhibition to honor the legacy of Marie Antoinette and the 20th anniversary of Sofia Coppola’s 2006 film, ‘Marie Antoinette’.

Scheduled from September 22, 2026, to January 27, 2027, at the Petit Trianon, the exhibition was designed in collaboration with Coppola. It aims to explore the film's aesthetic impact and its role in humanizing the former queen. The display will feature original costumes by Milena Canonero, props, storyboards, annotated scripts, and on-set photography. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view film sequences in the specific rooms where they were originally shot.

These celebrations follow recent interest in the queen, including the inaugural ‘Marie-Antoinette au Trianon’ ball held in June. The palace notes that exhibitions regarding Marie Antoinette remain among the most successful at Versailles due to her enduring status as a cultural icon.
