Palakkad police arrest seven for suspected lynching of man
Seven men have been arrested in the Palakkad district of Kerala following the suspected mob lynching of a 40-year-old man. The victim, who reportedly suffered from mental health issues and survived by begging, was found dead near the Moolathara dam on a Sunday morning.
Police investigations indicate the assault occurred after the man repeatedly slept in a house courtyard despite warnings. The suspects, including a prime accused identified as Kathiresan, were allegedly under the influence of alcohol and used wooden logs and stones to strike the victim. Authorities stated the assault continued even after the man had collapsed.
A post-mortem examination conducted at Thrissur Medical College Hospital confirmed the death was a murder, citing injuries consistent with a violent assault. The Meenakshipuram police have detained seven individuals: Kathiresan, Naveen, Karthik, Sanjay, Prasanth, Manikandan, and Sooryaprakash.
