Palanca border crossing closed after projectile strike injures officer

A projectile fell near the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe border crossing between Moldova and Ukraine on October 5, at approximately 09:38. The incident occurred during Russian attacks targeting Ukrainian infrastructure.

According to the Moldovan Border Police, the projectile struck the ground and ricocheted, hitting a transit bus parked near the border barrier and damaging a control booth. One border police officer sustained minor injuries; their condition is reported as stable. No other casualties were recorded.

Authorities have temporarily suspended operations at the Palanca-Maiaki-Udobnoe crossing and restricted access to the surrounding area while specialized teams conduct security checks. Travelers are being redirected to use the Tudora border crossing.

Moldovan President Maia Sandu condemned the incident, warning that the war is "dangerously approaching Moldova" and stating that Moscow is endangering lives across Europe. This event follows a series of airspace violations involving drones and missiles in the region.
