Palanga Art Gallery architectural competition winner announced
The winning architectural concept for the new Palanga Art Gallery has been selected following an international competition. MB Studija Heima secured first place with the project ‘Įkvėpti’, receiving a 13,000 EUR prize. The design features a single-story, horizontal building with organic forms inspired by coastal nature, such as wind-swept dunes and sea waves. The project includes a sculpture park, pedestrian and bicycle paths, and open public spaces.
Other notable entries included the ‘Šilas’ project by Syrusas, which took second place (10,000 EUR prize), and ‘Didysis Švilpis’ by Ambraso architektų biuras, which took third place (7,000 EUR prize). The gallery is planned to be located in Žiemos Square near Birutė Park, with a preliminary area of approximately 3,700 square meters. This space will accommodate exhibition areas, educational facilities, a hall, a bookstore, and a cafe.
Palanga Mayor Šarūnas Vaitkus expressed the ambition for the gallery to become an architectural icon that remains interesting for decades. The competition was evaluated by a commission led by Gintaras Balčytis, president of the Lithuanian Architects Union.
