Palantir CEO Alex Karp cites ‘Marxist connotations’ in AI industry
Palantir Technologies CEO Alex Karp has characterized certain trends in the artificial intelligence industry as having ‘Marxist connotations.’ In a recent letter to shareholders, Karp argued that large language model laboratories are attempting to capture the ‘means of production’ of their clients by absorbing proprietary data, intellectual property, and operational knowledge.
Karp framed Palantir as a leader in a ‘revolution for independence and sovereignty in AI,’ suggesting that companies and states relying on closed AI platforms risk losing technical autonomy and bargaining power. He noted that organizations purchasing tokens from these providers may effectively be paying to train their future adversaries.
The announcement coincided with a record-breaking financial quarter for the company. Palantir reported revenue of $1.935 billion, a 93% increase compared to the same period in 2025, alongside a net profit of approximately $1.07 billion. The company continues to serve major government and military clients, including the U.S. Department of Defense and the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
